If you are interested in learning how to become a professional drone pilot in Spain, it is essential to be aware of the requirements set out in the current legislation on drones and their airspace. Since 31 December 2020, the European UAS regulation has applied to every drone regardless of its use (recreational or professional):

  • Be 16 or over.
  • Keep up to date with the regulations and with your fitness as an RPAS/drone pilot.
  • Always carry the documents that certify the operation being carried out.
  • Hold the theoretical knowledge required to operate drones, according to the type and category of the aircraft.
  • Obtain a certificate accrediting theoretical and practical training in professional drone piloting. That certificate must be issued by an Approved Training Organisation (ATO) specialising in drone flight, (such as UMILES University), and recognised by the Spanish Aviation Safety Agency (AESA).
  • If you plan to fly drones in controlled airspace, you will also need to obtain certification as a professional radio operator. You get this by taking the radio operator course with us.

Remember that if you want to become a professional drone pilot and meet all the requirements, as well as taking home a free equipment pack, you can take our Master’s in Drone Piloting, approved by AESA. Step into an exciting sector that will open the doors to new heights!
